Monsanto Invests Resources in Technology and Innovation to Foster Success in Farmers

Thu, 01 Dec 2016 11:48:31 CST

Monsanto Invests Resources in Technology and Innovation to Foster Success in Farmers Seed technology leader, Monsanto, has invested its resources in innovation to foster the success of farmers and their operations. Technical Product Lead John Fietsam, who oversees Monsanto's team of liaisons between the company and the wheat farmer, claims success starts with the seed. Associate Farm Director Carson Horn spoke with him recently to discuss WestBred and what gives the brand its competitive edge.

"Our focus is offering seed solution sand ultimately success for our seed supplier partners out in the marketplace and for their farmer customers," Fietsam said. "Our current portfolio, we saw phenomenal performance with this year across Oklahoma and Kansas - farmers actually harvested much higher yields on the whole than what many were accustomed to and maybe have ever seen."

Fietsam says it was not uncommon this year to hear reports of 89 to even 100 bushels an acre in some dryland environments. Obviously, farmer satisfaction was very high for those who planted this seed. Fietsam attributes this success in the field to Monsanto's investment in technology focused on delivering results.

"Things like seed chipping technology, molecular assisted breeding, ramping up a doubled-haploid program," Fietsam said, "all of which helps get newer and better products to market faster."

The development of technical product team he oversees, Fietsam says is the latest investment Monsanto has made to better serve their customers.

"In that Oklahoma market, John Fenderson, is our technical product manager," Fietsam said, "and a resource that's working every day on generating new and better information on the key agronomic challenges that Oklahoma farmers are facing and how to best manage to get the most out of the wheat that they've planted."
