Getting "real" in a Stop Animal Movement Exercise

SAMS- KO stands for a realtime exercise coming on Thursday October 22nd that will spotlight how government and industry officials may react to the word that we have an infectious animal disease outbreak. Stop Animal Movement Statewide- Kansas Oklahoma will be the nation’s first emergency response exercise to test interstate coordination and the logistics of implementing a stop livestock movement order when one is issued by state animal health officials.
On this Beef Buzz, we hear from Terry Peach, State Commissioner of Agriculture for Oklahoma, who will help direct the Oklahoma response from the state capital in Oklahoma City. Kansas officials will be doing the same thing from Topeka, and at two border locations in northwest Oklahoma, the realtime test will include state troopers, area Vets and others who will be stopping trucks as if they were prepared to seal the border.
