The Cleveland County 4-H livestock judging team will be representing Oklahoma at the national 4-H livestock judging contest November 18, 2008 at the North American Livestock Exposition in Louisville, KY. The team qualified for the national contest in April at the Oklahoma state 4-H livestock judging contest where they were the high team. The picture here is of the team after they won the State Fair of Oklahoma Senior 4-H Division Contest, sponsored by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau YF&R. The picture here- left to right includes Mike Spadling, President of Oklahoma Farm Bureau, team members Carly Smith, Maverick Squires, Chris Hall and Aerial Smith- and to the right of Aerial is Natalie Leeds, co-chair of the Oklahoma YF&R Committee.
Three different High Schools are represented by these four young people:
Aerial Smith, a junior at Lexington High School, Carly Smith, a sophomore also from Lexington, Maverick Squires, a junior at Noble High School, and Chris Hall who is a senior at Moore High School.
The team's coach is Justin Rogers.
Along with the win at the state contest in April, the team has been extremely successful in 2008 with wins at several contests. The 4-H squad has judged and won at the NEO A&M College, Clarendon College, Oklahoma State Fair, Tulsa State Fair and the Texoma Beef Judging Contest. They were the reserve team at the Eastern Oklahoma State College, the OSU Animal Science Big 3 field Days in Stillwater and the National Junior Swine Association southwest regional contest in Wichita. Falls,TX.
Maverick Squires was named the high indivdual at the State Fair contest back in September- and we talked with him right after he received word he had won- and that his team had won the senior 4-H division as well. Click on the Listen Bar below to hear that interview.
