Mon, 06 Oct 2008 20:15:53 CDT
The Premium sale of the top market animals that were shown at the 2008 Tulsa State Fair was held on Friday at midday- and early tallies indicate that just over $500,000 was spent supporting these young people from all over the state of Oklahoma.
The Grand Champion Market Lamb was shown by Tara Burchfield of the Fairview FFA. Her Market Lamb, named Tut and the best in the show, brought $11,000, and was purchased by Jerry Murphy, a long time supporter of the Premium Sale at the Tulsa State Fair. Murphy owns Murphy Attractions (the midway rides) that show up each year at the Tulsa State Fair. Murphy told Sam Howrey that he has also been buying animals at the Junior Livestock Sale since 1972, the same year that LC Neel bought his first Grand Champion Steer. You can see Jerry Murphy holding the banner as he stands beside the Grand Champion Market Lamb being held by Tara Burchfield.
The reserve Grand Champion Lamb was shown by Cooper Newcomb of the Merritt FFA- purchased by Phyllis and Mike Raines for $4000.00.
