Hinton FFA Hits $8,000 Jackpot in Monsanto Winter Canola Contest

This past growing season, FFA chapters in select Oklahoma and Kansas counties were invited to partner with a local wheat grower and enter the Genuity™ Roundup Ready® Winter Canola Yield contest. Chapter members tracked their grower’s crop and harvest data throughout the growing season.
The Hinton FFA Chapter of Hinton, Okla., took the first place prize of $8,000. The chapter plans to use the money for new computers and a livestock barn. The Minco FFA Chapter of Minco, Okla., came in second place earning $6,000; and the Pond Creek-Hunter FFA Chapter from Pond Creek, Okla., placed third earning $4,000. The remaining participating chapters received a $2,000 donation.

The Genuity™ Roundup Ready Winter Canola Yield Contest, which recently kicked off for the second year, provides FFA students the opportunity to learn about winter canola production while working directly with a local farmer to raise money for their chapter.
Interest in winter canola as a rotational crop for winter wheat has been steadily growing in the Southern Plains as it helps to break up weed and disease cycles resulting in higher quality and yield potential. For more information on this product, visit www.genuity.com.
