Kevin Good offered to cattle producers at the 2009 Cattlefax Market Outlook Seminar both a look at the supply picture for both beef as well as the competing meats- as well as walking producers through a price outlook for 2009.
We have his presentation broken down into two segments- one is the supply outlook, where he predicts a total meat supply reduction of 1.8% compared to 2008. For beef, Cattlefax expects a 1.2% decline, for pork a 1.9 % decline and for Poultry a 2.5 % decline.
In round numbers- Good says that figures out to domestic per capita consumption of 50 pounds per capita for pork, 60 pounds for beef and 80 pounds for poultry.
He calls the supply side situation for the beef industry very bullish- and that when the market allows fundamentals to matter again- that will become a big deal.
