Checking in on the Beef Checkoff - OK Beef Council Partners with FFA to Promote MBA Program
Wed, 26 Sep 2018 17:01:44 CDT
Checking In on the Beef Checkoff is a new series the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and the Oklahoma Farm Report is proud to offer in partnership with the Oklahoma Beef Council. Over the next several weeks, we invite you to join us as we highlight some of the efforts being undertaken by the Beef Checkoff to promote beef on behalf of producers. This week, Heather Buckmaster, executive director of the Oklahoma Beef Council, visits with us about the OBC’s efforts in reaching Oklahoma’s youth through the Checkoff funded Masters of Beef Advocacy (MBA) program. Listen to Buckmaster speak with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays about this program, by clicking or tapping the LISTEN BAR below at the bottom of the page.
In September, the Oklahoma Beef Council attended the Oklahoma FFA Association’s “COLT” leadership meetings around the state to promote the Masters of Beef Advocacy program among the FFA members also in attendance. According to Buckmaster, this Checkoff funded program is an online training module designed to equip beef producers, industry allies and our youth in agriculture with the information they need to be everyday advocates for the beef industry. This is the ninth year the OBC has partnered with the FFA to promote the program. Last year, more than 500 FFA members received their MBA certification.
“Our goal at the end of the day is to create a generation of advocates for the beef community,” Buckmaster said, “to share the story of how we raise beef in America.”
