Checking in on the Beef Checkoff - Oklahoma Beef Council Encourages You to Attain Your Official BQA Certification

Wed, 21 Aug 2019 16:13:08 CDT

Checking in on the Beef Checkoff - Oklahoma Beef Council Encourages You to Attain Your Official BQA Certification In this week’s edition of Checking In on the Beef Checkoff - Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays is joined by Heather Buckmaster, executive director of the Oklahoma Beef Council. During their visit, Buckmaster talked about the growing number of beef producers who have proactively embraced the Beef Quality Assurance program and its principles. Listen to Buckmaster and Hays full conversation by clicking or tapping the LISTEN BAR below at the bottom of the page.

In 2017, the Beef Checkoff began offering free Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Certification. Currently, more 200,000 beef producers are BQA certified.

“We know beef producers are dedicated to responsibly raising safe, wholesome, high-quality beef,” Buckmaster said. “Being BQA certified tells consumers that producers have a commitment to delivering a product that is backed by science-based standards. Certification also addresses many questions that consumers have about beef production.”

The certification process only takes a few hours and consists of visual learning modules and simple questionnaires that serve as a checklist for producers to help them make sure they are using the latest management practices. For those producers already certified, Buckmaster points out that they will need to renew their certification after three years of their original certification. That can be done for free online or in-person at an upcoming training and dinner scheduled for August 29, 2019 in Cherokee, Okla. at the Cherokee Sale Company livestock market from 6-8 pm. RSVP today by calling the market at (580) 596-3361.
