Step by Step- Develop a Mama Cow Supplementation Plan for This Winter

Sun, 17 Aug 2008 15:27:38 CDT

Step by Step- Develop a Mama Cow Supplementation Plan for This Winter Dr. David Lalman, OSU Extension Beef Cattle Specialist shared with us a paper that addresses how to approach developing a supplemental feed program for this winter for your mama cow herd. We offer this as a part of our Cattle Industry Insights, courtesy of Hudson Livestock Supplements.

Dr. Lalman says My phone has kept me busy this summer visiting with producers about options to minimize feed costs this coming winter. The process of evaluating feeding or supplementation programs is not complicated and can be accomplished in 4 steps:

Determine the nutrient requirements for the appropriate stage of production.
Anticipate the amount of nutrients cows will receive from winter range and/or hay.
Determine supplemental needs.
Evaluate supplement alternatives.

We have his entire four page step by step process linked below in the pdf file that you can click on below.
