"Hunker Down" is the advice to OCA members from Livestock Economist Dr. David Anderson

Sat, 02 Aug 2008 13:33:08 CDT

The wrap up session of the 2008 Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association Convention featured Dr. David Anderson of Texas A&M with a look at the cattle markets- and the factors that will likely drive prices for the balance of this year into 2009.

Dr. Anderson feels like the stocker operator will have a chance to thrive in the current cattle market environment as the market is signaling that pounds of gain from forage are valuable as fewer days in the feedlot are being dictated by those same signals.

At the same time- he sees the current cow calf producer facing transition in their operations and he says that perhaps cow calf folks may need to "hunker down" as that might describe how they will need to approach this time of moving into a higher price for inputs and react to the different market signals we are now seeing.

We have a twelve minute conversation with Dr. Anderson where we grab the essence of what he talked about with OCA attendees Saturday morning. Click below on the listen bar.

We remind you that our event coverage from this 2008 OCA Convention and Trade Show has been sponsored in part by Hudson Livestock Supplements.
