Oklahoma Peanut EXPO
"Premier Peanut Educational Event for 2019"

Duirng the 2019 Oklahoma Peanut EXPO Attendees will hear from a group of peanut experts who will provide updates on everything from variety and market type selection to marketing and industry outlook.


"It's a great opportunity to learn from and speak with leading experts in the field and to interact with other peanut producers and industry members," said Ron Sholar, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Peanut Commission. "This will be the premier peanut education and training event in the region for 2019."


Oklahoma Peanut EXPO is a joint effort of the Oklahoma Peanut Commission, Oklahoma State University's Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, USDA Agricultural Research Service, the National Peanut Board, and partners in the peanut industry. Lunch is provided by meeting sponsors from industry and there is no cost to attend.


Dr. Marshall Lamb, a well-known peanut scientist from Dawson, Georgia will bring the group up to date on peanut market outlook for 2019. Sholar says, "No one knows the industry better than Dr. Lamb. He understands the forces affecting US and global supply and demand for peanuts and anyone growing or who is associated with peanuts in the southwest should be interested in what he has to share."


Ryan Lepicier, Senior Vice President for Marketing and Communications for the National Peanut Board will provide a 2019 update on National Peanut Board activities and peanut research sponsored by the board.


According to Dr. John Damicone, OSU Extension Plant Pathologist and a presenter on peanut disease control, attendees will hear from several others who will provide key updates. Damicone says, "Josh Bushong, OSU Extension Area Agronomy Specialist, will provide a production update". Dr. Todd Baughman, OSU Extension Weed Scientist, will cover the latest in weed control for peanuts.


Researchers from the USDA/ARS Center for Peanut Improvement in Stillwater will discuss their work and latest results. Dr. Kelly Chamberlin will discuss high-oleic peanut varieties being developed for the southwest and Dr. Rebecca Bennett will discuss disease resistance evaluation of varieties and advanced breeding lines. "The peanut industry is excited about new varieties with improved yield, quality, and disease resistance released from Dr. Chamberlin's breeding program" Damicone says.


OPC will hold a nominations election to select two nominees each for member and alternate to the National Peanut Board. All eligible peanut producers are encouraged to participate. Eligible producers are those who are engaged in the production and sale of peanuts and who own or share the ownership and risk of loss of the crop. The National Peanut Board represents all USA peanut farmers and their families. The mission of the Board is to improve the economic condition of USA peanut farmers and their families through promotion and research.


An OPC District 2 Election Caucus will also be held for producers from Alfalfa, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Cotton, Garfield, Comanche, Grady, Grant, Jefferson, Major, Kingfisher, and Stephens counties.


According to Damicone, "Peanut EXPO also provides an opportunity for attendees to visit with industry representatives who supply the equipment, products and services needed to produce the crop."


Peanut EXPO will kick off with registration and exhibits opening at 9am with the program starting at 9:50am and ending at 2:45pm.
