OKLAHOMA GROWS CONFERENCE AND TRADE SHOW SLATED FOR NOVEMBER 8TH AND 9TH ON THE RED RIVER

Three Oklahoma Organizations are collaborating to bring Oklahoma Grows, a multi-state green industry and professional affiliates conference and trade show, to the region on November 8th and 9th. The conference, hosted by the Oklahoma Nursery and Landscape Association, The Oklahoma Water Resources Center and The Oklahoma Turfgrass Research Foundation, will be held at the WinStar Convention Center at the WinStar World Resort and Casino in Thackerville.

The focus of the conference is on water conservation and smart usage within the green industry. The event is geared to attract nursery and greenhouse retailers, landscape contractors, city parks and recreation departments, golf course superintendents, landscape designers, grounds maintenance companies, and anyone with an interest in improving the landscape and smart water usage.

Continuing education units (CEUs) will be offered for pesticide application licensing (ODAFF 3a, 3c and 10), landscape architecture (ASLA) and arboriculture (TCIA, ISA). In addition, a series of classes specifically for golf course superintendents focusing on golf course best management practices (BMPs) will be held. Twenty-two education sessions spanning the two days of the conference will be led by experts in their fields, such as:
Dr. Steve George, Texas A&M University
Dr. Jim Klett, Colorado State University
Dr. Carl Whitcomb, Oklahoma State University (retired)
Debbie Hamrick, North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation
Dr. Kevin Wagner, Oklahoma Water Resources Center
Dr. Guy Sewell, The Oka’ Institute at East Central University
Dr. Mike Schnelle, Oklahoma State University
Dr. Jason Vogel, University of Oklahoma
and more!

80 exhibitors from across the nation will be present to share products, services and information from all areas of the industry including nursery and greenhouse wholesalers, irrigation suppliers, equipment dealers, fertilization and pest management suppliers, hardscape wholesalers, service suppliers and more.

Come a day early on Tuesday, November 7th, to enjoy the Annual ONLA Scramble Golf Tournament, a Guided Striper Fishing Tour on Lake Texoma, or a tour and dinner, featuring speaker Steve Upson, at the Noble Research Institute in Ardmore.

Wednesday, November 8th features the Green Industry Celebration, which includes an awards presentation and live auction that supports scholarships for horticulture and landscape architecture students in Oklahoma.

Highlights on Thursday, November 9th include diverse education sessions featuring use of native plants, strengthening water conservation and sessions that offer CEUs. The day ends with prize drawings and giveaways.

Hotel accommodations are available at the WinStar Casino Hotel at the special rate of $99/night. This rate ends October 24th, so be sure to reserve your room, using the link on the ONLA website before it’s too late.
