Sat, 20 Jun 2009 5:17:05 CDTIn talking with Mark Hodges of Plains Grains, Incorporated, they have received quality data from two grainsheds for the 2009 crop. Data has come in from the Abilene, Texas and Altus, Oklahoma grainshed with the quality indicators very good in this very short crop.
The test weights are at 59.4 pounds per bushel, protein is high at 14.1% average, very good 1,000 kernel weights at 31.4 grams average and very good kernel diameters at 2.68 mm average. The crop itself is only about 20 -25 % of a normal crop in the Abilene area, and 10% to 15% of a normal crop in the Altus area.
