There is some fresh harvest information available, courtesy of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission, as we continue coverage of the 2009 Oklahoma Winter Wheat Harvest. (This update is as of 10 AM Monday, June 8, 2009)
Southwest Oklahoma
Harvest continued in southwestern Oklahoma this past weekend, with machines running in all areas after rains slowed harvesting down earlier this past week. Test weights are reported to be in the 58-61 pound range around Walters and Temple with some reports of lower test weights coming in at 55 pounds. In Eldorado on up to Hobart test weights were coming in at 58 to 61 pounds in most places. We had one test weight in Hollis reported at 64.4 pounds. Yields seem to be around the 8 to 10 bushel per acre range in the far southwest with higher yields being reported around the Hobart area. Some yields around Hobart were reported to be around 20 to 22 bushels per acre.
South Central and Central Oklahoma
Apache Coop in Chickasha received their first load of grain this Monday morning. Harvest activity started this weekend north and west of Banner in some places. Test weights around Banner were reported to be anywhere from 52-59 pounds. Harvest activity also started around the Okarche and Kingfisher areas Sunday afternoon with test weights in that area reported to be anywhere from 56 to 61 pounds. Yields in this area are reported to be better, with reports of one field making 40 bushels per acre while other fields were making anywhere from 15 to 25 bushels per acre.
