2009 Harvest TIdbits as of Midday Monday June 22

Here are some harvest tidbits as of midday Monday that have come in to us here at the Oklahoma Farm Report.
Matt Gard of Fairview offers these comments about Major County and the 2009 harvest. "With out seeing the actual numbers, my estimate for our community is 1/2 the wheat was destroyed due to the all winter drought and late freeze. That just leaves 1/2 the wheat to harvest with half the yield. That will equate to just 1/4 the total bushels we would normally have for the community. These are lost dollars to be spread around the towns or pay the bills that were required to grow the crop. The Major County harvest is 90-95% over. A few rain showers totaling about .7" slowed harvest back on Friday and Saturday.
The photographer that took shots of Don Schieber and his crew while they were in Minco was in southern Kansas over the weekend- and it rained out most of the harvest in the area where he had set up shop. Bob Hider writes from Wellington "It rained pretty heavily on Friday night which put the kibosh on cutting for Saturday, and then heavy rains, hit early Sunday morning and we were dead for Sunday." He has decided to come back down into Kay County- they missed the rains seen in Sumner County just across the lines in southern Kansas and hopes to be riding in the combine today with Don Schieber and his crew. More on that to come I am sure.
Finally, speaking of Don Schieber, his crew in Minco was featured this past Saturday on SUNUP- and you can click here for the link to that video.
