The 2009 Wheat Crop in Jeopardy- We Begin to Assess Freeze Damage This Week

Mon, 13 Apr 2009 5:41:00 CDT

The 2009 Wheat Crop in Jeopardy- We Begin to Assess Freeze Damage This Week We talked with the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission, Mike Schulte at the end of this past week- and Mike reports that while it is very likely that we have had damage to wheat in several areas of the Oklahoma Hard Red Winter Wheat Belt- we won't really start seeing that damage show until the next few days. He adds that the regular monthly board meeting of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission is planned for this coming Wednesday- and one guest that will be there is OSU State Wheat Specialist Dr. Jeff Edwards. Dr. Edwards hopes to offer an update on freeze damage at the meeting and he has offered to take a look at samples of wheat plants for any wheat producers that wish to being them in for him to take a look at.

You can see our conversation with Mike that was aired on our Saturday In the Field Segment on April 11- seen on KWTV News9 out of Oklahoma City. Just click on the play button on the video window below to see Mike Schulte and Ron Hays on In the Field.
