Oklahoma 2007 Ag Census Shows Four Percent More Farms in the State Versus 2002
Wed, 04 Feb 2009 14:28:17 CST
The 2007 Census of Agriculture has been released- and like the national numbers- Oklahoma farm numbers are up compared to the 2002 Census. There are four percent more farms in the state compared to 2002, with a total of 86,565 farms versus 83,300 five years ago.
Fifty eight percent of the farm operators consider their off farm job as the primary source of their livelihood. For those that are depending on the farm income, 2007 was a better income year with stronger prices for the products that farmers raise compared to 2002. The total market value of production in Oklahoma was $5.806 billion, up 30%. Eighty percent of the value of that production came from livestock sales versus 20% for crop production.
