The 2010 Oklahoma Pork Congress is Set for January 29
Fri, 15 Jan 2010 15:40:17 CSTThe 2010 Oklahoma Pork Congress and Annual Meeting will be held on Friday, January, 29 at the Express Event Center in Oklahoma City. Approximately 200 pork producers from across the state are expected to attend.
"We look forward to hearing from Oklahoma pork producers about the issues they face and how we can serve them as their producer-driven organization," said Roy Lee Lindsey Jr., executive director of the Oklahoma Pork Council. "We will also have the opportunity to recognize three men that have made outstanding contributions to our industry."
The day will start with an update from the Oklahoma Pork Council, the National Pork Board and the National Pork Producers Council on state and national programs. Then producers will hear from the executive vice-president of the Ohio Pork Producers Council on what he learned this past year as agriculture organizations in that state battled with the Humane Society of the United States and passed the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board through a ballot initiative.
Producers will also hear from Bob Brown, a market analyst from Edmond, Okla., on what he thinks will happen to the pork industry economically in 2010 and Cindy Cunningham of the National Pork Board will share what they learned while getting the pork industry message out to the national media during the H1N1 flu outbreak.
During the awards banquet, the 2010 OPC Hall of Fame Award will be presented to John Thomas, vice-president for Tyson Foods and general manager of The Pork Group, and Myrl Mortenson, managing partner of Hanor, which oversees the Roberts Ranch of Oklahoma swine operations in Hennessey, Ames and Mooreland. The 2010 Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Ron Hays, director of farm programming for the Radio Oklahoma Network.
Other activities will include a business meeting and election of new members to the board of directors and a new board president.
