Oklahoma Receives Section 18 Approval for Pastora to Control Sand Bur in Bermuda
Mon, 05 Apr 2010 15:37:37 CDT
The Environmental Protection Agency has granted a specific exemption to allow Oklahoma producers to use the chemical Pastora to control sandbur infestations in Bermuda grass from now until June 30. Pastora is a herbicide made and sold by DuPont Crop Protection. Johnston Seed, along with the ODAFF, DuPont and the Oklahoma Agribusiness Retailers Association have worked to get this "Section 18" exemption in place.click here for the labeling info as found on the ODAFF website.
The agency granted the exemption at the request of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry. The state agriculture department has posted labeling information for the chemical on its website-
Pastora is the only herbicide effective for sandbur control after the weeds have emerged. The letter from the EPA, which we have uploaded and have a PDF file link at the bottom of this story- says that application is allowed up tot he two leaf stage of Sand Bur- this on bermudagrass stands that are at least one year old. Earlier this year Prowl H20 was approved for use as a pre-emergent for sandbur control.
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry also advises producers and other landowners to begin treating pastures for invasive weeds such as musk thistle at this time. 24D type products are effective during this time of year.
