Nowata FFA Claims First in Commercial Cattle Grading Contest at Southern Plains Farm Show

Grading of Commercial Cattle was the focus of the contest held on Thursday on the opening day of the Southern Plains Farm Show. A total of $6,300 in scholarship committments were handed out to contestants of this event, with over 260 participating this year. The main sponsor of the Contest is the American Farmers & Ranchers, with the Rick Jones Memorial Scholarship sponsored by OKC West Livestock. The picture here is of the highest scoring FFA team from the Nowata FFA Chapter, including Hannah Allen, Katie Bell and John Franke. Each member received a $200 scholarship
Other top FFA teams included:
Second Place- Nowata FFA (team2) including Zac Truesdell, Kyle Kester, Ashley Huntington and Chelsea Parrett. Each member received a $150 scholarship.
Third Place- Hulbert FFA including Dillon Walls, Jeral Keener, Roger Bower and KC Barnes. Each member received a $100 scholarship.
Fourth Place - Adair FFA including Travis Berka, Micah Matthews, Kiston Taylor and Marshall Timmons.
Fifth Place- Ok Union FFA including Shelyn Gehle, Rebecca Gagan, Rope Mosely and Aaron Hewitt.
The High Individual for the FFA Division and the overall top Youth Indivdual was Marco Ortiz of Hulbert FFA, who was awarded the $2,000 Rick Jones Memorial Scholarship. Second high individual for the FFA Division was Jesica Bellou of Cache FFA, while the third high individual in FFA was Brittney O'Dell of Nowata FFA.
In the 4-H Division- the top teams included:
First Place- Rogers County 4-H including Erick Welch, Michaela Branen, Lyndee Branen and Reighly Blakely. Each team member received a $200 scholarship.
Second Place- Wyandotte 4-H including Kayla McKibben, Eric Enyard, Tyler Compton and Natalie Hofshulte. Each team member received a $150 scholarship.
Third Place- Nowata 4-H including Garret Bell, Lindsey Parrett, Robin Smalley and Shane Hubert. Each team member received a $100 scholarship.
The top three 4-H individuals included Tyler COmpton of Wyandotte in First Place, Lindsey Parrett of Nowata 4-H and third place 4-H individual was Erick Welch of Rogers County 4-H.
