Beef Exports Continue with a Positive Trend

Oklahoma State University Extension Livestock Market Economist Dr. Derrell Peel is our guest again on the Beef Buzz, as we talk today about beef exports- and how they have continued to come back from the BSE issues of 2003, when we had the "Cow that Stole Christmas." In December 2003, a Canadian dairy cow was discovered as testing positive for BSE, or Mad Cow Disease, and that caused most countries in the world to ban US beef from their markets.

Slowly but surely, we have recovered much of the lost trade with our foreign customers. And the increases of last fall into this spring are starting to be significant once again- and helping move US cattle prices in a positive direction.

We talk about exports with Dr. Peel and how he sees this part of our demand picture impacting cattle prices here in the US.

The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the state on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well. Click on the listen bar below for today's show- and check out our archives for older Beef Buzz shows covering the gamut of the beef cattle industry today.
