NCBA Hopes All Views of Competition Within Beef Industry Will Be Heard at Beef Related DOJ-USDA Workshop Later This Year
Wed, 21 Apr 2010 5:03:43 CDT
Colin Woodall is the lead lobbyist for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, and last month he went to the first US Department of Agriculture and Department of Justice "workshop" on competition in agriculture held in Ankeny, Iowa. While this first workshop was supposed to focus on issues related to crop agriculture, a lot of time was spent on making calls for legislative proposals that have been called for before- things like a ban on packer ownership of cattle, a prohibition on private deals between packers and larger livestock producers and the like.
Woodall says he was there to get a feel for how the Obama Administration would handle these workshops, which continue through much of 2010, and will include one in August that is designed to focus a lots of its attention on the beef cattle industry.
We have comments with Woodall as he reflects on what he saw and heard in Ankeny as it relates to livestock- and on this Beef Buzz, he expresses concern that, come August in Ft. Collins, Colorado, the messages that are allowed to be heard be balanced and represent both sides, one just a single viewpoint.

The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the state on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
