Coverage of the 2010 Winter Canola Harvest continues here on the OklahomaFarmReport.Com- with pictures courtesy of Brad Tippen, County Extension Educator in Canadian County, based in El Reno.
Brad provides these pictures of a field of winter canola that was "pushed" this past Thursday, May 27, 2010. It's located south of El Reno. Included in the shots is a picture of the implement that is used to "Push" the Canola over- stopping the growth of the plant and allowing the Canola plant to begin to dry down. Canola that is pushed is lower to the ground and is less likely to have a lot of loss from the Canola pods due to high winds. Tippen estimates that this field will be ready for harvest about ten days after the "push" operation, which means that the actual harvest of the Canola seed will occur early next week.
Pictures here are of canola that has been pushed on May 27 in Canadian County- Harvest Could Begin Around June 7, 2010
