OSU Developed Variety Duster Proves to Be Top Yielder in First Two Harvested Variety Plots in Southwest Oklahoma
Wed, 09 Jun 2010 15:49:07 CDT
The OSU Wheat Variety Duster has claimed top yield honors at the first two Wheat Variety Field Plots that have been harvested in 2010 by Dr. Jeff Edwards and his colleagues at Oklahoma State University's Wheat Improvement Team.
Duster had the best yield at the Frederick Wheat Variety trial- the yield total for Duster was 53 bushels per acre, followed by Agripro varieties Doans, Jackpot and Greer. Click here for the full list of varieties in the Frederick trial.
Meanwhile, in Olustee, the top yielding variety was also the OSU Bred Duster, tying for first place at 49 bushels per acre with the K-State variety Fuller. Doans from AgriPro and K-State's Overly are ranked third and fourth best in the Olustee location. Click here to see the yield data for all varieties at the Olustee site.
At both sites, the one time dominant variety of wheat grown in recent years in Oklahoma, Jagger, was near the bottom of the rankings in terms of yield per acre and in the test weight numbers obtained from the yield samples. The picture here is of Jagger seen in the 2010 Lahoma variety trial- a variety that now has stripe rust issues and is likely to be on its way out as a commonly planted variety in the state.
These are the first of the OSU Variety Plots to be harvested here in 2010- State Wheat Specialist Dr. Jeff Edwards says that he will be adding the locations as they are harvested to the OSU small grains webpage- click here for the page.
