2010 May Be the Year to Store Your HRW Wheat

Thu, 10 Jun 2010 21:21:06 CDT

2010 May Be the Year to Store Your HRW Wheat Wheat prices have tumbled below the expectations of OSU Grain Marketing Economist Dr. Kim Anderson- and he says the key to our harvest time price woes when it comes to Hard Red Winter wheat is the Gulf Basis, off as buyers at the Gulf have no interest in either the low protein wheat left in storage from last year's crop- or the apparently below export standard protein wheat being harvested in 2010.

Dr. Anderson says that for those farmers that have weed problems in their fields- they will face severe penalties as the dockage rates that elevators are working off of in 2010 are huge- especially when you are looking at a price around three dollars per bushel for clean wheat.

Kim Anderson does see the potential for wheat prices to get off the mat and rise into the fall months- so he says it's a year where you might want to seriously consider storing much of the wheat you harvest here in 2010.

Dr. Anderson's full conversation with Clinton Griffiths can be seen this weekend on the OETA program SUNUP- or you can listen to his wheat market thoughts right now by clicking on the Listen Bar below.

SUNUP has more than just Dr. Kim Anderson this weekend- Clinton Griffiths is the host of SUNUP and he tells us about the lineup for this week's program:
