The End of Canola Harvest Sparks Optimism for 2011 Crop
Tue, 29 Jun 2010 6:41:52 CDT
The 2010 Winter Canola Harvest is officially over. Farm Director Ron Hays rode the final two passes in the combine that helped conclude what appears to be a very successful canola production season for 2009-2010.
That ride was with the President of the Great Plains Canola Association, Jeff Scott of Pond Creek. The field we were in was just north of Lamont in Grant County and was a DeKalb Roundup Ready Canola variety that ended up yielding over 40 bushels per acre, even after being hailed on and then having several days of rain delay once the canola in the field was pushed and ready to be harvested.
We have pictures here on our website of this wrapup of the Winter Canola harvest from our vantage point- in and outside of the combine Monday midday. Click here for page one of our pictures- and then you can click here for page two for the rest of the pictures we have posted from June 29.
We talked with Jeff Scott, as well as with Gene Neuens with POP and PCOM about the 2010 canola season- and you can hear an overview of these conversations by clicking on the Listen Bar below.
