OSU Economist Derrell Peel Marvels Over Strength in Cattle Market
Thu, 19 Aug 2010 22:16:31 CDT
Cash Cattle Markets have exploded this week, with a jump of up to $5 per hundred higher. The Texas Cattle Feeders reports in their daily report that steers and heifers have hit $100 per hundred weight- over 18,000 at that triple digit price. This week's price even surpasses the expectations of OSU Livestock Market Economist Dr. Derrell Peel who recorded his segment for this weekend on SUNUP just ahead of the word of the cash cattle market spike of this week. You can hear Dr. Peel's comments about the strength that has been confirmed once again this week in the cattle market- driven some by demand and a lot by tight supplies. Click on the LISTEN BAR below for a preview of the Peel segment for this weekend's SUNUP from the OSU Division of Ag to be seen Saturday morning on OETA.
Besides the Derrell Peel segment- there are another half dozen features that will battle for your attention on this week's program- including:
Chad Godsey dissects corn pollination for the SUNUP audience.
In a previously recorded Cow Calf Corner, Glenn Selk talks about the difference heat causes in gestation length.
SUNUP visits Premium Natural Beef in Hobart to learn about that company's success and how the Food and Agricultural Products Center helped.
On Shop Stop, Randy and Wayne teach us about V-Belts.
Then Tom Royer joins us to demonstrate the various ways scientists sample for insects in the field.
AGWEATHER breaks down this past week's rainfall and shows where it did the most good.
Finally, SUNUP heads for the 83rd Annual Sooner State Dairy Show.
