State Leaders Want Action on Renewable Energy
Mon, 13 Sep 2010 17:26:52 CDT
Members of the Governors' Wind Energy Coalition say a renewable standard should be the cornerstone of the nation's new clean energy economy. Coalition members want the Senate to take action in this direction. In a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid it was noted - the U.S. wind energy industry will never reach its full potential, unless and until Congress passes legislation setting a robust minimum standard for the use of renewable electricity.
The letter was signed by Iowa Governor Chet Culver and Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri. The coalition represents 26 states across the country that stand to benefit from a renewables standard, which would require that an escalating percentage of power be generated from renewables sources, such as wind or solar, by a certain date.
