Lame Ducks and New Representatives in Washington
Wed, 29 Sep 2010 17:05:26 CDTA “Lame Duck” session of Congress is the only remaining chance this year for passage of key legislation that affects agriculture. Legislation such as the estate tax, continuation of individual and business tax cuts, renewable energy tax incentives, child nutrition, and food safety. In the meantime, the education of many new members of the U.S. House is expected following the November 2nd elections.
Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas could inherit the House Ag Committee Chair from Minnesota’s Collin Peterson if the Republicans take control of the House come next year. Lucas expects up to 100 new members in the House, all needing education in how things are done on Capitol Hill. Many are expected to be from rural districts.
