Grain Drills Are Running- Where It's Dry Enough for Planting the 2011 Wheat Crop
Fri, 17 Sep 2010 6:47:16 CDT
OSU Grain Marketing Economist Dr. Kim Anderson tells us that farmers are planting wheat where their fields are dry enough to let them. He believes that there is still time to plant and get wheat pasture this fall- and he says it appears a lot of folks are looking to make that happen.
Interest in Winter Canola has grown a lot since last fall- and more acres will be planted to winter canola this year as a result. Anderson says that current Crop Insurance rules will not allow farmers to get insurance if they should plant canola in consecutive years- so a rotation between canola and winter wheat will be imperative.
You can hear all of Kim's comments with Austin Moore of SUNUP by clicking on the LISTEN BAR below- or you can wait and watch Kim talk wheat with Austin on this weekend's program as aired on the OETA.
Besides the Kim Anderson segment, Austin promises a great show this weekend- which includes:
We visit a pair of landowners in Durant who are battling kudzu, and ask Karen Hickman what more can be done to control it.
On Shop Stop, Randy and Wayne show when to use and when not to use a drill press.
Glenn Selk talks about the advantages of Fall calving in this week's Cow Calf Corner.
AgWeather digs into statewide soil moisture.
Finally, we walk through the beef markets with Derrell Peel and see what winter grazing will do to prices.
