South Korea Wants FTA Approved
Tue, 05 Oct 2010 17:15:06 CDTSouth Korea wants to see the free trade agreement with the U.S. approved by Congress. To do so - the Korean embassy is adding to its lobbying and public relations team. Justice Department records show the embassy has signed the Glover Park Group to a yearlong contract - and public relations giant Edelman to a three-month deal. The Korean Embassy's communications director says both were hired to help work with this Congress to get the trade agreement passed.
Earlier this summer - President Obama said he wanted the deal approved by the end of the year. But labor unions are opposed to the deal and House Ways and Means Chair Sandy Levin says modifications are needed if the deal is going to win his support. Some advocates of the agreement hope Congress will consider the legislation after the midterm elections - of course there are several other items that need attention and only so much time to address them.
