Sat, 23 Oct 2010 6:47:31 CDT
For the second year in a row, Oklahoma had a dominating presence in the National Proficiency Awards that are selected and presented at the National FFA Convention each fall. In 2009, Oklahoma had the most National Finalists who competed in Indianapolis- and the most National Winners. That was repeated in 2010, as Oklahoma had a total of 22 National Finalists in the 47 Proficiency Award areas- and eight of those young men and ladies were declared the National winner in their category. California and Illinois were each able to claim five National Proficiency awards apiece, while Georgia, Nebraska and Wisconsin managed three apiece.
The 2010 National Proficiency Award in Veterinarian medicine is Emily McCullough of the Lone Grove FFA.
Emily McCullough of the Lone Grove FFA Chapter in Oklahoma has known she since was ten years old that she wanted to make veterinary medicine her career. When she began working at the local vet clinic, her main duties were feeding the animals and sanitizing the operating rooms. Now, she is charged with administering medications and caring the animals before and after surgery. After college, McCullough plans to start her own vet clinic.
