It appears that the agricultural industry continues to be united in their opposition to State Question 744.
Scott Dewald of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association tells us that his group has had concerns for months as the campaign for State Question 744 has unfolded. We have a conversation that we had with Scott this past week as election day nears about the OCA position on State Question 744. Click on the LISTEN BAR below to hear our chat about this issue that would mandate a large increase of funding for common education.
We have had earlier stories about State Question 744. We talked back in late summer with the President of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Mike Spradling. Click here to listen to our visit with Mike about Farm Bureau's beef with this State Question.
Another conversation that we had several weeks ago was with Burns Hargis, President of Oklahoma State University. President Hargis predicts multiple years of double digit tuition increases will occur if State Question 744 passes as money now spent on Higher Education will be drained away to take care of this new mandate. Click here for our earlier conversation with Burns Hargis of OSU.
Another leader that we visited with about State Question 744 is Terry Detrick, President of the American Farmers & Ranchers. Detrick says AFR and Farmers Union has always stood for education in the state of Oklahoma- but this concept is not the way to improve common education in the state. Click here for our story on the AFR Opposition to 744.
