Newest Member of the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation Pledges to Work With Congressman Lucas on Rural Issues
Wed, 03 Nov 2010 5:16:49 CDT
Republican James Lankford has been elected to hold the U.S. House 5th District Seat.
Lankford, a 42-year-old political newcomer, defeated Democratic candidate Billy Coyle and Independent candidate Clark Duffe.
Lankford said as the U.S. House 5th District Seat holder he wants to challenge the "status quo in Washington" and career politicians.
"They are not the only ones who are passionate about our country," Lankford said. "There are a lot of us who are passionate about the issues and ideas, and want to work."
The seat was vacated by Republican Rep. Mary Fallin, who stepped down to run for governor.
We talked with the newest member of the Oklahoma Congressional delegation at his watch party on Tuesday evening. Click on the LISTEN BAR below to hear our conversation with him. In our conversation, Lankford expressed the desire to work with the new Chairman of the House Ag Committee, Congressman Frank Lucas, as Lucas prepares to lead the effort to write a new farm bill over the next couple of years. Lankford also told us he was very pleased that he will be a part of a massive freshman class of Republican lawmakers that have helped push the GOP back into the majority in the House as of January.
