Senators Push for Biofuels Consideration in Energy Bill, VEETC Extension
Wed, 10 Nov 2010 17:49:16 CSTA bipartisan group of Senators is calling on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to include biofuels language in the energy bill and to consider legislation to extend the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit. The ethanol tax incentive is currently set to expire December 31st this year. In a letter to Reid - the Senators point out that both steps are crucial to the effort of reducing the nation's dependence on foreign sources of oil, creating jobs in the U.S. and addressing the issue of climate change.
The letter is signed by Tom Harkin of Iowa, Kit Bond of Missouri, Tim Johnson of South Dakota and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. According to the letter - these Senators are encouraged by the progress that's being made by vehicle efficiency gains and by the increasing contributions from domestic biofuels - but they're deeply concerned that continued biofuels expansion is being constrained by marketplace limitations.
