Tue, 28 Dec 2010 17:16:36 CST
South Korea’s Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is planning to use vaccines in an attempt to halt the spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in that country. The vaccine will be used on cattle on farms within 10 kilometers of an outbreak. Previous efforts to control FMD relied on quarantine, depopulation, cleaning and disinfection. So far 1,900 herds have been infected and more than 400-thousand animals have been slaughtered in an attempt to control the disease.
