FDA Food Safety Act In Trouble
Wed, 01 Dec 2010 17:50:53 CST
A - technical glitch - has been found in the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act which could cause problems. A section of S-510 addresses money which the House considers to be a tax. By law, taxes must originate only in the U.S. House. As a result, the House could return the bill to the Senate to be adjusted before the House would consider the bill.
If the House fails to re-write the bill and return it to the Senate for more consideration, and a Conference Committee cannot act in time, the food safety bill would die and the new Congress would have to begin anew on the problem.
