USDA Supports Public Schools and Roads
Mon, 03 Jan 2011 17:38:13 CST
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says more than 389-million dollars is being distributed to 41 states and Puerto Rico for public schools and roads and specific county programs. In making the announcement, Vilsack explained, - our century-long support of America's public schools and roads is one of many ways in which USDA and the Forest Service, as good neighbors and partners, contribute to rural communities becoming self-sustaining and prosperous.
In 2008, Congress extended the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act for four more years, through 2011. Under the extended Act states and counties will receive another 1.7-billion dollars to help transition to reduced payment levels.
