Beef Demand Will be Tested by US Cattle Herd Rebuilding ProcessMon, 10 Jan 2011 5:43:47 CST
Tight supplies of calves, yearlings and market ready cattle have led to strong cattle prices in the latter stages of 2010- as well as here in the early days of 2011. The Chief Economist of the American Farm Bureau, Bob Young, tells us that it will be a balancing act as we try to rebuild our herds over the next couple of years. Holding more heifers to add to the herd will mean fewer pounds of beef that will be available to consumers- and that could mean higher retail prices- which will test the real level of beef demand here in 2011 and 2012.
We talk about these current market factors with Bob Young on today's Beef Buzz.
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the state on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
