USDA Secretary Vilsack Promises Farm Bureau Convention Goers Full Economic Study on GIPSA RuleTue, 11 Jan 2011 5:45:19 CST
US Secretary Tom Vilsack was able to brave the weather and speak to the closing General Session of the American Farm Bureau Federation on Monday afternoon, January 10, 2011. He addressed a variety of issues- including several of special interest to the beef cattle industry. Farm Bureau members applauded the Secretary for comments about the Congress passing Estate Tax reform at the last minute in 2010.
On the GIPSA rule governing livestock and poultry marketing practices, Secretary Vilsack assured Farm Bureau convention-goers that USDA won’t move forward on the proposal until it has a full and complete understanding of the economic consequences.
We hear his comments on why he believes something needed to be done on this issue of fair and open markets on today's Beef Buzz.
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the state on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
