Congress Has Taxing ScheduleMon, 11 Apr 2011 17:31:53 CDT
Monday, as the final continuing resolution for 2011 was being prepared, it appeared agriculture would take a significant hit. According to New York Senator Charles Schumer, primary cuts would come from agricultural programs and defense. A final vote on the CR could come Wednesday, turning over the stage of debate to the 2012 federal budget.
On Thursday, House members will debate the Paul Ryan budget proposal for 2012. It would cut some 5-trillion dollars over the next ten years. But a plan to be released Wednesday night by President Obama will likely add drama to that budget debate. The Presidentís plan is expected to get rid of the Bush era tax for the rich, those making more than 250-thousand dollars.
