Tue, 14 Jun 2011 10:43:23 CDT
With dry summer weather quickly drawing near pinkeye prevention is a top priority for ranchers across the region. There are recommended techniques for reducing or eliminating the incidences of pinkeye. Kansas State University veterinarian Gregg Hanzlicek talked with us about the three main causes of pinkeye andexplains various management practices that help lessen the chances of an outbreak.
According to Dr. Hanzlicek, nutrition is often overlooked when considering pinkeye prevention. Vitamin deficiencies can cause cattle to become more susceptible to the bacteria. He also says that vaccinations prove very effective in decreasing the number of pinkeye outbreaks.
We talk about the battle against Pink Eye in our cattle herds on today's Beef Buzz.
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the region on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
