Kenneth Failes Becomes Newest Member of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission

Gov. Mary Fallin has appointed Kenneth Failes to a five-year term on the Oklahoma Wheat Commission Board. Failes, a wheat producer from Cherokee, will represent District I, which includes Alfalfa, Garfield, Grant and Major counties.
"We are excited that Kenneth Failes has been appointed to the Oklahoma Wheat Commission board," said Mike Schulte, CEO of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission. "His knowledge and experience with wheat production as a farmer and his previous roles as an agronomist and crop advisor will lend him well to be a leader for our industry, which is what Oklahoma needs in this position."
Failes responsibilities as a member of the commission include working with the other members to develop and oversee the implementation of policy and programs, approve budget expenditures, direct the funding of research, market development and public education, represent district producer interests, and promote Oklahoma wheat. Failes received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Agronomy from Oklahoma State University.
"Kenneth has been instrumental in helping producers with crop quality and concerns within the Northwest District of the state. It will be beneficial to have his knowledge on a national level when making decisions on new scientific wheat traits to study for increased yield and quality" Schulte said.
He and his wife, Marcia, currently run Failes Family Farm L.L.C. They farm approximately 1040 acres with 600 acres of that in wheat production.
He joins current commission members Tom Stephens, Guymon; Tom Glazier, Loyal; Jeff Krehbiel, Hydro and Don Schieber, Ponca City. Failes replaces Keith Kisling of Burlington, who resigned earlier this year from the Commission.
