Information in the Cattle Industry Developing Over Time
Fri, 01 Jul 2011 11:25:28 CDT
Duane Jenkins, a rancher near Higgins, Texas, has been in the seedstock business for many years and he has definitely seen some changes over the years. Jenkins says one of the biggest changes is the amount of information available to customers when purchasing an animal. He says he can remember when customers didn't get any additional information other than looking at the animal.
With the development of Expected Progeny Differences, ultrasounds and other technology, there has been an improvement of information available within the industry. Jenkins says there was some resistance when EPD's first came into the industry, but he took it on to educate others about the benefits of this technology.
These technological advances are needed now as the focus of consumers ranges from everything from maternal functions to carcass traits.
