WheatWatch2012- Dusted In Wheat Looks for a Second Drink This Weekend- Take a Look
Fri, 07 Oct 2011 05:14:42 CDT
Wheat Dusted in a couple of weeks ago in Central Oklahoma- near Stillwater- got a small drink of water after being planted- and now Clay Burtram tells us that if they get another dose of rainfall this weekend- there could be wheat pasture in his future. Clay says that he was blessed by the rain provided earlier. He adds that this field pictured when it was dusted in- there was no rain in the forecast- it was just planted on the faith that rain would show and the wheat would grow.
Clay adds that the last few days of September- he was in western Oklahoma helping write crop insurance policies- and that he saw a lot of farmers "dusting" in wheat then- and he suspects that activity has been even more pronounced these first few days of October. This weekend will be the indicator of whether that proves to be a successful strategy or not.
We will be watching and reporting on the 2012 winter wheat crop over the next nine months- our WheatWatch reports are a service in part of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission, click here to learn more about how they are putting your wheat checkoff funds to work for wheat producers.
