For the Second Year in a Row- Oklahoma FFA Advances Three Speakers into the National Finals

And Blair makes it three! For the second time in as many years, Oklahoma FFA has advanced all three National Speech contestants into the National Final Four of their respective contest. On Wednesday, Kaylen Baker of Yukon advanced to the Final Four of the National Prepared Public Speech Contest- competing on Thursday morning in those finals. Kyle Hilbert of Depew also advanced into the Final Four of the National Extemporaneous Speech Contest. He was also competing on Thursday morning in Finals Hall. (We talked with Kaylen after her performance in the National Finals- click on the LINK below to take a listen.)

On Thursday- Blair Kloeppel of Kingfisher advanced in both the Premlinary round, as well as the semi final round to reach the National Final Four of the Creed Contest- to be held midday on Friday at the Indianapolis Convention Center, site of the 2011 National FFA Convention. The picture here is of Blair talking with State FFA Advisor Jack Staats about her first round success on Thursday morning.

The Creed Contest requires the student to recite the FFA Creed which has four paragraphs- all starting with the statement "I Believe." Then, each contestant is asked three preset questions that relate back to the Creed and have up to five minutes to answer those questions. Tyler Schanaithman of Garber was the final four representative from Oklahoma last year- we have the video from him- click here to jump over to Youtube and see Tyler- this video has had over 11,000 views over the past year.

All three speakers will know their fate when the results are announced Friday evening in the general session held at that time.

Thursday afternoon, the judging of the National Profiency Awards took place, and we will know the results of those deliberations later today- staritng mid afternoon on this Friday. Oklahoma has 15 finalists this year- tied for the fourth most in the country for 2011. The last two years- Oklahoma has had the most Proficiency Awards of any state in the US- and while that string is likely to end this year- several young men and ladies from the state may well hear their name called on Friday afternoon- we will be "tweeting" and posting on the website later in the afternoon from Conseco Fieldhouse the results as we have them.

We have posted a new batch of pictures on our Flickr page- our thanks to the Oklahoma State Officer team for taking several shots around the convention yesterday while I was busy judging in the first two rounds of the National Creed Contest. Our exclusive coverage from the 2011 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis is a service of the Oklahoma FFA Association and the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association. Click here for the State FFA website for more information about this youth organization. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
