Tue, 11 Oct 2011 16:49:37 CDT
David DeLaney, vice president and general manager of livestock and ranching operations for King Ranch, will be the featured speaker at Oklahoma State University's 18th Annual Totusek Lectureship on Nov. 3.
"We're very pleased to offer the opportunity for guests to listen to and interact with Mr. DeLaney, whose oversight responsibilities include cattle, horse, wildlife and hunting programs for King Ranch's Texas properties," said Katie Judd, OSU Animal Science Graduate Student Association officer.
The association in partnership with the OSU Department of Animal Science hosts the annual lectureship, which honors the contributions of Robert Totusek, a 38-year faculty member who served 14 years as department head.
There is no cost to attend, but participants are asked to RSVP no later than Oct. 28 by contacting Brody Wallis by email at brody.wallis@okstate.edu or by phone at 405-744-8862.
"We will be serving a free-of-charge prime rib dinner complete with baked potato, green beans and cheesecake at 5:30 p.m., followed by Mr. DeLaney's lecture at 6:30 p.m.," Judd said "Having guests RSVP helps us ensure there are sufficient meals, refreshment breaks and materials on hand."
The dinner will take place at the Robert M. Kerr Food and Agricultural Products Center, located on the corner of Farm Road and Monroe Street on OSU's Stillwater campus.
The lecture will take place in 124 Animal Science Building, located next door.
"David DeLaney is very much a noteworthy, knowledgeable speaker in spirit with the vision of the Totusek Lectureship," said Ron Kensinger, head of the OSU Department of Animal Science. "His experiences in so many diverse areas of ranch operations provide useful insights into what it takes to be successful in today's agricultural marketplace."
DeLaney currently serves on the board of directors and executive committees of both the Texas Cattle Feeders Association and the Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association. He previously served on the National Cattlemen's Beef Association board of directors.
The longtime cattle producer is an adjunct faculty member at Texas A&M University Kingsville, where he serves as a graduate student adviser and member of the Business Management Council for the King Ranch Institute of Ranch Management.
Prior to joining King Ranch in 2005, DeLaney served in leadership positions with Friona Industries, L.P. from 1992-1996, with his eventual oversight responsibilities encompassing the organization's feed yard division and cattle company.
From 1984-1992, he worked in an operations and procurement capacity for Corsino Cattle Company of Amarillo, one of the largest ranching and stocker operations in the Texas Panhandle.
DeLaney earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Richmond and his Master of Science degree in ruminant nutrition from Texas A&M University.
