Noble Foundation Offers Micro-Irrigation Seminar for Small-Scale Producers
With the memory of the 2011 drought fresh in the minds of horticulture crop growers, interest in micro-irrigation has peaked.

To help growers learn more about micro-irrigation, The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will host a Micro-irrigation Seminar from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Noble Foundation's Kruse Auditorium.

This seminar is designed for the hobby gardener and small-scale commercial fruit and vegetable growers. Attendees will learn about the pros and cons of micro-irrigation systems, including drip irrigation and micro-sprinkler irrigation, and basic information on managing these systems. There will also be discussions on water source options, pump selection, control station options, system design considerations, irrigation scheduling and water quality issues.

"Specialty crops cannot be established and grown sustainably without irrigation in the Southern Great Plains," said Steve Upson, horticulture consultant. "This seminar will help provide a foundation of information for those considering an irrigation system or those who already have one, but want to improve it."

The seminar is offered at no charge, but advance registration is required. For additional information or to register, please visit www.noble.org/agevents or call Tracy Cumbie at 580.224.6292.
