Haworth FFA member Steele Rasmusson knows the hard work and dedication of running a successful hay bailing operation and getting crops to prosper in a variety of soil types. Through his first-hand experience on his family farm, Rasmusson's passion and dedication to the hay bailing industry led to his selection as the 2012 State Star in Agribusiness recipient.

Rasmusson's supervised agricultural experience was rated the best agribusiness project among the 727 FFA members who received the State FFA Degree during the 86th annual State FFA Convention on May 2. In addition to this honor, Rasmusson received the Governor's Trophy and a $2,000 cash award sponsored by Blue & Gold Sausage Co. of Jones, Okla.

Rasmusson moved from Utah to Oklahoma in the fifth grade. After stepping foot into an agricultural classroom, Rasmusson said he knew he was in the right place. He began his hay business bailing large squares bales. His passion, with encouragement from his FFA advisers, guided him toward success.

"I love hay, and I love the custom bailing business," Rasmusson said. "I always loved the hay process and loved everything about it, so one day I just decided that's what I wanted to be doing." Rasmusson said he attributes much of his success to his rural upbringing and involvement in FFA. Rasmusson is The 18-year old Haworth FFA member is the son of Shand and Angela Rasmusson. His agricultural education instructors and FFA advisers are Terry Maye and Sky Storey. After graduation, Rasmusson said he plans to obtain a degree in agricultural business before achieving his long-term goal of operating his own farm.
