Fri, 18 May 2012 05:11:27 CDT

Combines Go Full Blast in Southwest Oklahoma- Oklahoma Wheat Commission Harvest Update Harvest has rapidly expanded this week across a large portion of the Oklahoma wheat belt. The Oklahoma Wheat Commission released the following Wheat Harvst Update on Thursday afternoon- reflecting harvest is starting to wind down in the southwestern communities along the Red River and is starting at various locations well into North Central Oklahoma.

May 17, 2012 Combines are now rolling in Northern Oklahoma Elevators in the Okarche and Kingfisher area have been taking in wheat since Tuesday afternoon.

Plains Partners in Okarche has taken in around 30,000 bushels and are just getting a really good start today. The test weights are averaging 60 61 and moisture is 11-12. No yield results are available.

Shawnee Mills in Okarche took in their first loads today and they have around 6700 bushels. Test weights are ranging from 58 61 and moisture is averaging 10.

May 17, 2012 The hot, windy harvest days are back in Southwest Oklahoma Combines are rolling at full blast all over Southwest Oklahoma today. All elevators are extremely busy this afternoon and many have not had a break since the first truck went across the scales this morning. With the current weather conditions, this pace will continue thru the weekend. There are some concerns that since the crop is ripening at a record pace across the state, the Custom Crews will be pulling out of SW Oklahoma before the crop is in and producers will be scrambling for help from neighbors and friends to finish getting their crop in. Moisture levels across the entire area are reading 9-11.

Gavilon Grain in Altus has taken in right at 1M bushels. Test weights are still averaging around 60 and yields are improving. East of Altus the yields are coming in from 40 50 bushels per acre with some fields yielding 60 65.

Coops in the Altus, Olustee, and Tipton area expect to take in a total of around 2M bushels when all is done. They are currently at the halfway point. These Coops loaded out 50 railcars and the protein averaged 13.8. Ranges were from 11.7 16.9.

Tillman Producers in Frederick has taken in 900,000 bushels with test weights averaging 61. Yields in this area are all over; anywhere from 27 73 bushels per acre. Tillman still expects to finish up harvest in their immediate area this weekend. Harvest is progressing north.

Elevators around the Hobart, Lone Wolf, Rocky, Cordell, Bessie, and Clinton areas are all taking in wheat. Planters Coop Association, which has 11 elevators in SW Oklahoma, has taken in over 2M bushels to date. Average test weights are 60 and moisture is 11. Yields are coming in from 45 60 with an occasional number in the 70's. Railcars that they have loaded, up to this point, are averaging 11.5 on protein.

Coops in the Rocky, Cordell, and Bessie area are reporting test weights of 56 60 and moisture is holding around 11. There is not any real definite yield or protein information from these elevators at this time.
